Consider a situation where someone showed concern for you, even in a small way. How did you respond, and what does that reveal about you?

Prompt Response:  A time when someone showed me compassion was the other day when a friend gave me a computer charger. I responded by saying thanks. I think that this shows I am a kind and compassionate person who is thankful for others kindness towards me.  Summary: We did vocab and worksheet. Reflection:  I learned more about the book.

Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt Response:   Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, the visual version of Chris's journey makes his choices seem deeply justified, whereas the text exposes his actions as dangerously reckless. The film's medium uses sweeping cinematography and an emotional soundtrack to act as an engine for empathy, immersing you in the romanticized freedom of his rebellion. In contrast, the written medium relies on journalistic facts and critical outside perspectives, forcing you to analytically weigh the tragic reality of his lack of preparation and stubborn hubris. Summary: We watched a move Reflection:  I learned there was movie about this book.

Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

Prompt Response:  As I got older I think that I started to realize that things just didn't magically appear. We had bills to pay, jobs to do, and it was hard work and a lot of it was stressful. There were a lot more boundaries in the world that controlled what you could do, when you could do it, and even how you had to do it. Most people comply with them as it is apart of life, but some people arn't wired like that. Chris McCandless certainly was not. He had a really really hard time doing that, way more than the average person.   Summary: I was not here (sat)      Reflection:  Was not here

Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

Prompt Response:   Chapter 4 stands out because it depicts McCandless’s "point of no return" when he abandons his Datsun and burns his money. Krakauer’s storytelling effectively highlights this radical transition from a college graduate to a nomadic seeker. The event is impactful because it proves Chris was willing to sacrifice every form of material security for total independence. It serves as a meaningful look at the extreme discipline and high stakes that defined his entire odyssey. Summary: We took a test Reflection:  Angus is doing really well in our march madness group.

Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Prompt Response:  At this point in my life success means that I am doing well in school, I am healthy, and having fun. On top of that I also need to keep up with extra curriculars to help with getting into schools. I think that these ideas of success for me at this point in my life come from me and my parents, as well as society as a whole. I think that everyone in my life that is an adult wants to push me to do better and reach better things. Nobody is really sitting around like I dont care do whatever you want. Summary: We did more reading, finished through chapter 10 Reflection:  I learned more about the story.

Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

Prompt Response:  A time I chose to be on my own instead of with others was for a project in Lit last year. It was easier for me to just do it alone because I knew exactly what I wanted to do already and it was just a lot faster. I usually like working with other people but that time I just wanted to get the project over with so I decided not to.  Summary: We read more Reflection:  I learned about others stories like Chris's.

Choose a vocabulary word from Lesson 10 that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

Prompt Response:   The word majordomo resonates with me because it represents the essential role of a behind-the-scenes organizer. Whether managing a busy restaurant floor or a complex application, I take pride in being the steward who anticipates every need. This word reflects my experience with "operational readiness"—ensuring everything is show-ready before a challenge arrives. Ultimately, it is about the quiet discipline required to keep a complicated "household" running perfectly. Summary: We did vocab Monday  Reflection:  I learned some new words today.

For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

Prompt Response:  My desired score is like anything above a 1250. It is not a great score but I have a really hard time on the SAT for some reason even though I do good in school. I would say my top three schools are all in Georgia because of the instate tuition. The three schools would be GA Tech, UGA, and GA Southern. Summary: We read more of the book. Reflection:  I learned more about McCandless's adventure.

Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

Prompt Response:  I don't find it that hard to adjust as it is only an hour change. I like that school is going by faster because it feels earlier than it is. I feel like I am more productive as it stays light out longer into the evening. I don't think that it impacts my mood that much, I was disappointed to hear that I was gonna lose an hour though. Summary: We read chapter 6 with a short assignment.  Reflection:  I learned more about McCandless's adventure.

In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

Prompt Response:  To be honest I don't think that there is anything that has influenced my life that much other than the people I grew up with (family and friends) and the places I grew up in. I really don't think that any one author or musician has had a certain message that really stuck out to me the way that Jack London did for McCandless. Maybe there is one but it was a subconscious influence and I did not really realize it.   Summary: Mr. Rease was not in today, worked on book reading and questions. Reflection:  I am learning about the adventures of Chris McCandless.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response:   Last summer, I felt totally burnt out by social media and the pressure to always be "on" for my friends. I decided to head to a quiet state park for a weekend and actually turned my phone off for once. Stepping away from the noise gave me the space to finally hear my own thoughts. I realized I’d been trying too hard to fit in, and that break taught me I’m actually much happier being my independent self. Summary: We read more from the book. Reflection:  I had homework for identifying themes.

After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response:   Based on Chapter 1, McCandless seemed more focused on his ideals than the actual danger. He ignored Jim Gallien’s serious warnings about the harsh weather and lack of food. By heading into the bush with minimal gear, he showed he wasn't truly prepared for the wild. It feels like he loved the idea of adventure but didn't respect the survival risks. Ultimately, his overconfidence made him overlook how deadly Alaska can be. Summary: We were introduced to a new book that we are reading. Reflection:  We read the first few chapters.

Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Prompt Response:   I had a blast using Adobe Express to bring my vocab words to life. "Vivid" clicked instantly since I just paired it with a bright, glowing sunset. "Ambiguous" was a bit of a head-scratcher, though, because it's hard to find a photo that captures "uncertainty." Coming up with my own sentences and hunting for the right images really made the definitions stick. It felt less like a chore and more like I was actually learning. Summary: We did vocab Monday Reflection:  I learned new vocab words.
