Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response:  My most unforceful meal is the first thanksgiving I can remember. I don't know why but I just remember it the most fondly because it was in our old house in Boston and all our family was there. That was also the last year we lived in that house, which I kind of miss.  Summary: We took a test Reflection:  I learned about the lakeside news

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

Prompt Response:  A time that I was able to look out for myself was when I remembered that I hadn't checked my cars oil in a while. I used to have to because it would leak. There was almost no oil left and I was getting ready to go on a really long car ride. If I had not remembered to check the oil I could have ruined my car and racked up a large bill. Or even hurt someone. But I did remember so it was all ok, it's  a lot easier to deal with things when you remember to do them. Summary: I started my writable questions Reflection:  I learned about a story called "The Life You Save May Be Your Own".

Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

Prompt Response:  A time I encountered a homeless man was when we were outside a Waffle House and he just started talking to us. He later told us he was blind. I felt really bad and kind of wondered how he ended up on the streets. It makes me sad to see homeless people even if a lot of their time it is their fault for abusing drugs or other substances. Summary:  I was absent Reflection:  I was absent

Write about what you are thankful for.

Prompt Response:  I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful that we do not struggle to put food on the table. I am thankful I wasn't born in India. I am thankful that I was not born with a disability. I am thankful that I have parents that are loving. There are a lot of things i am thankful for. Summary: We did the vocabulary assignment. Reflection:  I learned more vocabulary words

The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

Prompt Response:   I used to think one of my friends was just really quiet and didn’t want to talk to anyone. Then I found out she was dealing with some stuff at home, and it completely changed how I saw her. Suddenly her behavior made a lot more sense. After that, I understood she wasn’t being rude—she was just going through a hard time. Just like the ending of A Rose for Emily, that new info made me see the whole situation differently. Summary: We read a Faulkner story. Reflection:  I learned about more stories.

In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:   One of the craziest news stories I ever heard was about a guy who lived in an airport for months because he was scared to go home. It stood out to me because it felt like something that would only happen in a movie. People were shocked and kind of confused about how his life ended up like that. The story showed how fear can make people do things you’d never expect. It also proved that people are always interested in weird situations that don’t happen every day. Summary: more reading stories Reflection:  Learned about more stories.

Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

Prompt Response:   I saw the word “brigand” in a book I was reading about adventures. It described a group of brigands who lived in the mountains and stole from travelers. From the story, I understood that a brigand is like a robber or thief. The way the author showed them attacking people made the meaning very clear. Seeing the word in the book helped me remember what it means. Summary: I did my part of the power point. Reflection: I learned new vocab words.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

Prompt Response:  My parents forbid me to fight with my brother. This didn't really help much because we would fight often, I'm not sure why it was just what we did. But we grew out of it. They also forbid us to go wonder far from the house on our own. We could go around the block but because we moved around so much we never really knew many people in our neighbor hood.  Summary: We analyzed a story Reflection:  I leaned more vocab words.

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Prompt Response:  My dad has always been the one that is more strict. But I would say my parents are pretty chill compared to others. I do no have a curfew, I've never been grounded, never been beat. For the most part my dad will give me a lecture and make sure that I learned my lesson. My dad is able to trust me enough to give me more freedoms. I have viewed discipline in a neutral way. I don't like it but it is important. Summary: Working on our projects Reflection:  I learned more about analyzing stories.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Prompt Response:  A time that I learned a new word that really helped in my understanding was in French. There was this one word that I didn't understand and I finally asked her what it meant and all of a sudden after that because it showed up in all my assignments I understood so much more. It really helped me to understand the text a lot better and I now feel like I am able to interpret the passages better. Summary: We worked on our vocab book. Reflection:  I learned a lot of new words like truncate, and lugubrious.
